These arias, of course, are exceptionally rewarding for singer and listener alike . . . Kozená boasts many assets in Handel: clean, bracing tone, fine intonation, spectacular coloratura, musical fastidiousness. A glorious soprano showpiece, Melissa's "Desterò dall'empia Dite" from "Amadigi di Gaula", is well managed . . . Andrea Marcon and his original instrument players confirm their high reputation, collaborating splendidly with the singer, the soloists (cello, oboe, trumpet) notably accomplished technically . . . Venice Baroque demonstrates that the best of Italian Early Music ensembles can now compete at the top level with any in Europe . . . As usual with Archiv, the engineering is splendid.
